Art I Heart — Heisuke Kitazawa

I first became acquainted with the work of Heisuke Kitazawa (aka, PCP) a while back at a Giant Robot show at JANM in Little Tokyo. He designed a random flier I found laying on a bench that I thought was way too special for such a throw-away format. So, I hung it up on my inspiration board.

A year later, I re-disovered Kitazawa's work and just bought this Swan Lake poster for my ballet-loving daughter's room. (Bonus points to the elves at the PCP online shop for the super-speedy order turnaround!)

His dizzyingly lovely work has gotten love from the likes of Poketo, Aladdin (gotta get one of those tumblers) and Her Space Holiday. Over at his site, he claims to be working on a picture book about an "army of zombies and book burning." His work is so flat-out delicate and pretty that — full disclosure — I thought it was created by a woman until I started writing this post (stereotypical, I know). So, it's hard to imagine the same artist producing creepy arsonist monsters...but I'm keen to check it out.
